Links to documents are owned by their respective authors(s).

NOTE 2: The Wikipedia articles: Super Game Boy, and List of Super Game Boy games have taken all of their information from this database minus the documents not made by me. All games listed with their respective enhancement listing on this database are all legitimate, and therefor not taken from any emulator or source without crediting them. I will not be using emulators as the basis for any part of this database except some Super Game Boy packet information as emulators have accuracy problems, ROMS may have bad bits when dumped.

NOTE 3: Fuck ugetab! And Knurek better credit me for the GBS rips in the "official:" page or I might do something crazy. YK doesn't deserve tagging credit for the sets available on SNESmusic.org, and I officially declare that he remove his name and update the sets to reflect the hardware variations and more accurate track names. I like how YK includes himself on other people's projects without even asking them. People really appreciate that. YK is the same person who needs other people to make music modifiers and do all the *actual* work to find unused music and or jingles/removed sound effects when not normally possible. I'm also very displeased with his butchering of the "Super Gameboy 2" SPC set. Not only did YK remove all of the jingles, changed names to his liking... yeah, well you can download the Super Game Boy 2 SPC set from here... looks like his version is the one that was put up here accidentally. I'll fix it.

Before I start, I would like to thank Gunpei Yokoi for inventing the Game Boy, my favorite video-game system. Shame Gunpei Yokoi has died and in such a tragic way. We will never forget what Gunpei Yokoi brought to gaming. The Game Boy and the unfairly panned Virtual Boy has given our hearts warmth from spectacular childhood memories we've all had from playing with the migraine inducing contraption.

I have been thinking of this idea for quite some time now. The purpose is too list all of Game Boy and Game Boy Color games that have any form of enhancements when played using a Super Game Boy 1 or 2, and the second part of the project is to list everything else pertaining to the Super Game Boy.

Here is a code key for enhancements which will be differencing from the Super Game Boy command packet listing. TODO: add the organised list of packet commands and code-names.

AM - Attraction Mode? Used by every game at one point or one other to set the pallet to black or white to prevent garbage. The command MASK_EN can also be used to freeze the screen until it changes to avoid graphical garbage as it loads VRAM.
BO - Game border overlays game screen. Different than Custom Sprites or Objects.
CD - Disables Color Selection
PS - Colors swap back to SGB when in game colors change or ROM changes occur.
ID - Disables the ability to switch game Input controls via SGB Menu.
CB - Game Boy game has custom SGB Borders.
CC - Game Boy game has custom SGB Colors
EM - Game Boy game has custom SGB Music
CM - Game Boy game has Enhanced SGB Music.
ES - Game Boy game has Enhanced SGB Sounds.
CS - Game Boy game has custom SGB Sprites or backgrounds
OBJ - Game Boy game uses custom sprites on screen.
SU - Game Boy game has speed Up mode. (I have never seen this feature used.)
MC - Game Boy game supports multiple controllers at once via SNES (2P -4P)
DS - Game Boy game disables Super Game Boy border screen savers.
JMP - Game Boy game initialises native Super Nintendo program. Nekketsu Beach Volleyball uses this for a custom sound engine, Space Invaders has a 16-BIT version, and Olympic Summer Games uses the JUMP command for an unknown reason, possibly having to do with sending data to the Super Nintendo's VRAM.
U, J, E - The game is only available in that region only.
Misc - Other unusual Custom enhancements (with notes dictating what they are listed along the game and what Super Game Boy command is used.) A SNES Controller replaces a Game Boy when in game controls are show as in the Game & Watch Gallery Series.

Trivia:

- The first game to use enhancements for the Super Game Boy is "Game Boy Gallery - 5 Games in 1", a UK only title, not Donkey Kong 94 contrary to what most people think. For some reason Game Boy Gallery has it's release date as April 27th, 1994. Donkey Kong was released June 1994 in the US, 06/14/94 in Japan and in Europe it was released 09/24/94. Gamefaqs is wrong by one year.

- All Super Game Boy enhanced musical scores are stored in the .GAK format. Beach Volleyball sends it's enhanced voice samples and music as a SNES program by using the JUMP instruction. Sound Effects for this game still use the standard default Super Game Boy sounds.

- The original Super Game Boy runs the GB-Z80 at an increased rate of approximately 2.4% faster than the Game Boy DMG. This is due to hardware differences between the Super Game Boy and Game Boy. This issue has been corrected on the Super Game Boy 2, which was released in Japan only in 1998.

- All non-custom enhanced sound effects (Both A and B Type) can be heard in a single game called Real Bout Special.

+7 downloads before updating pack yet again to fix the French version of Link's Awakening; adding all of the songs and sounds as well as doing the same for Game & Watch Gallery (Game Boy Gallery as it is called in Asia).

It is impossible to put these in a set order, so excuse the sloppiness of the SGB SPC sets.

This database is based on games that I own according to my Super Game Boy on my SNES without any emulation. Every detail is listed according to my copy of the game played on a real Super Game Boy 1 or 2 and is more complete than wikipedia (because they suck) and emulators suck and only serve as a novelty purpose.

A Bug's Life - (GBC) CC, CB, CM (This is the only Game Boy color game I have yet to have seen that has enhanced music when played on a Super Game Boy), (Misc - Prevents sound effects from being played during the "cut-scenes"; guess they were aiming for silence?)

Animaniacs - CB, CC, PD, CM (Music uses a non-standard sound driver), ES, BO, AM (Attraction Mode Static appears at start up. Colors Fading, Enhanced Music Fading), Misc - Disables other border screen savers even while entering the code L,L,L,R. Does it do this for no reason. Super Game Boy enhanced games have the ability to disable screen savers. I don't know why any game would need this feature, but Animaniacs is probably the only game to use the feature.

Asteroids/Missile Command - CB, PD (at intro and in-game reset), PS ( anywhere were not in game or were forced pallets are.), CC Arcade boarders and colors (wikipedia says it has custom sounds but my copy doesn't... probably because wikipedia sucks.)

Something else creepy about this game; in Wario Land 2, non-color only, when you play Flagman DD, the border from Flagman in this game is used for Wario Land 2's Flagman DD minigame. That's the only SGB game I know that used another border from another game except Game and watch gallery 2 and 3 but those were intentional. There is more to this game then meets the eye. Also, this game is the first Super Game Boy enhanced game ever, not Donkey Kong 94, contrary to what most people think.

Bad news for you NTSC Super NES owners. If you happen to to buy a Super Gameboy 2 don't expect it to work too easily. You need to go buy a Famicom converter such as the Tri-Star (It's also called the Super 8) and you'll need to modify your Super 8 to make both the Super Gameboy 1 and 2 work properly as described here I'm working on a Super Game Boy Database or go to your local hardware store and buy some bolts to open it and use it. Sorry Nintendo is a bunch of assholes!

I also want to suggest you include a list of which pre-SGB games boot with each of the preset palettes. An example would be how Super Mario Land uses 1-F and Tetris uses 3-A. Since 1-A is default, you can leave that one out.

I have a few of these games I'll post latter. Also note that four other games display a SGB log on the cartridge but have none. I don't know if they were going to or what. These games are Frogger, (old gray version), Super Break Out (old gray version), The Lion King, The Little Mermaid. I did't know Wario Blast had four controllers I thought it was on two being supported.

For some strange reason some game genie codes cause the SGB to crash with random glitches after code entry like KDL2, G&WG2, Wario 2. Also if you play toy story and enter f57-109... try it on the main level music that's all I'm telling you.

Tetris 2, a rarity with SGB but more common to find the other original non-SGB version with CC, and CB but only if you pause the game and Press A button at any time while leaving the game paused. I still don't know if the original Tetris for Game Boy has different colors then A-3 (the one with the rare "Unknown" "TYPE A" Song) I do own every game that uses pre-defined color schemes and have listed them on the page 2. I have dumped the SGB 2 SPCs which I i'll add the rest of the sound FX from both 1 and 2 and will give them names according how they sound and try to make them available at SNESmusic.org.

Brutally messy, but it's the only way I can think of getting a universal music modifier for games that use Super Game Boy enhanced soundtracks since Super Nintendo RAM codes will not work on my PARMK3. Somewhat limited in that my code will only play the selected songs in the currently loaded ARAM and is a 7E0340:?? ($2140) modifier. Works with most games.

Universal Super Game Boy Music Modifier!!!

Starting the game will play your selected song from the bank stored in ARAM, so by default this will be limited to the songs in the bank, but this isn't much of a problem since most games have all of their songs in one bank (Using this code without previously loading a game will play one of the songs from the Super Game Boy bios. Using this code WILL Delete all of your saves in Mole Mania, so don't use this code if you actually care about them. To use this code, you must first insert a game of your choice into the Game Boy Game Genie, then once the song bank is loaded into the Super Nintendo's ARAM, take the game out and insert Molde Mania into your Game Boy Game Genie)

Known glitches (All discovered by me)

-Second player controls the menus and game at the same time!: When playing a 2Player game using both controllers; the second player will control the game and the menus simultaneously if the second player enters the SGB menu.

-Keep an enhanced color from changing: If you want to keep a color the same for a certain part of the game, go to the color editor menu and hold a snapshot until the the next part of the game occurs and press L and R to exit the menu to return to game with the previous enhanced colors. (Will not work sprite or object specific colors. Also will not work on games that do not allow you to change colors.

SNES PAR Codes:
Here are some SGB 1 and 2 Codes I hacked and are for the SGB on a SNES with a Pro Action Replay MK3 cart ONLY; Pro Action Replay and MK2 won't work. Some of these codes are garbage, glitches and sometimes enables a useful and or wacky features. These codes work with both Super Game Boy 1 and 2 unless noted. NOTE: You will need a SNES Model 1a (the beige discolored version with 4 rubber feet) in order to use these codes on real hardware since Nintendo implemented an ati-Game Genie mechanism that also affects the PAR workability on all games that use a special FX chip and most non-FX chip based games.

Our best guess is this was intended for when you would pause a game and as an alternate to having the music restarting, as seen in Pokonyan. Also used in Pokonyan for music fading out when you exit the area. When a new sound effect is played or the value is set to 0, the music will fade back in again. Something relevant to note: Pressing the MUTE button on the Super Game Boy Commander permanently disables enhanced music, probably setting the value to FF, though I'm not entirely sure about that.

And a little note on Wario Blast: It can actually support up to 4 players with SGB. I know. I've tried it, you just need a multi-tap and enough controllers. If a GB game can support multi-player with SGB, let's point it out.

For what it's worth, I too can confirm this... which is pretty cool, as I didn't know the Super Game Boy had this ability at all. Bomberman is simply one of the most crazy games. I don't know which is more interesting, Saturn + Bomberman + 3 Multi-Taps + 10 Controllers or Wario Blast + SNES + SGB + Multi-Tap + 5 Controllers...

General Questions (Super Game Boy 1 and 2)

Q: What is a Super Game Boy?

A: The Super Game Boy is a video Game system/accessory cartridge for the Super Nintendo that allows you to play Game Boy and Game Boy Color games. You can customize the four shades of grey with 32 preset color pallets or make your own colors with the 52 paints and save them via password system. There are Nine borders built into the SGB. There also are many other features including enhanced sound, colors, borders and even 2-4 players with one game!

Q: Are there and special controllers or devices specially designed for the Super Game Boy?

A: The actual controller; , and the Japanese box.) is A special controller made by Hori Electronics, the same company who co-oped with Nintendo to make a controller called the SGB commanderthat is only available in Japan, unfortunately. The SGB commander has a few buttons and a switch that lets the user switch between Super Game Boy and Super Famicom It will work on a PAL and US NTSC Super Game Boy without any problems.

Q: If I were to play a PAL Game Boy game on my NTSC Super Game Boy, Will PAL enhancements be parsed by the NTSC Super Game Boy?

A: While Game Boy has no regional lockout, It's true that the Super Game Boy has no regional block as well. In fact I have proven this by playing my PAL Game Boy Gallery (5 Games In 1) cartridge on my NTSC Super Game Boy and all enhancements were working; even the colors switch when VRAM data changes. Also default pre-determined boot-up colors for PAL games show themselves on NTSC Super Game Boys and Mario and Yoshi (E) is proof of that. There is exception, the PAL version of Space Invaders does not let you play it on a NTSC SGB.

Q: What are pre-determined/pre-defined colors?

A: When Nintendo released the Super Game Boy, they had a few games in mind that were worthy of assigning colors to, specifically 1 out of the 32 pallete selection, not enhanced colors. Nintendo felt is was worthy to assign 13 different games a color set to suit the game better then the default 1-A color set. More info on what games have colors and more can be found at second page (by default).

Q: Will pre-defined colors from a Japanese game work on a NTSC console or Visa versa?

A: Since the pre-defined colors are determined by the Game Boy game's internal file name (in it's header) and match by the Super Game Boy by the Super Game Boy reading the filename at start-up. I have proven this by obtaining Game Boy Wars (J only) and playing it on my NTSC Super Game Boy and the default color is now 3-E instead of 1-A and it is the case for all 13 games.

Q: Some games use enhanced music; how do listen to them in an emulated video game format?

A: There is no easy way of dumping these songs into .spc files. The only known way of doing this is to hook your SPC-700 chip onto a designed FGPA (Field Programmable Gate Array) circuit that will sit between the SPC700 chip and SNES then rig up all appropriate connections and add a function to the FPGA that can simulate the requires bus signals to drive the SPC700 directly and then trigger this using a pin on the FPGA. Use this to (temporarily?) hijack the SPC700 and do with it as you please. Also dump that data over some bus that the FPGA connects to. Sounds complicated, right? While it is possible to do so because all the games save their enhanced music in the SPC-700 DSP chip so the sound engine is dumpable through the RAM of the SPC-700 DSP chip unlike some games where the sound core requires the main CPU unit to send each piece of song data to the chip; Wario's Woods is an example of this.

I have dumped all of the known games to use enhanced soundtracks when played on a Super Game Boy. You can take the botched versions from SNESMusic, but I wouldn't. Instead, you can download them from the first post of the Super Game Boy Database.

Super Game Boy 2 questions (only)

Q: I heard rumors of the Super Game Boy 2 allowing you to play Game Boy Color only games. Is this true?

A: This is partially true while being true at the same time. While You cannot play Game Boy Color only games on your Super Game Boy 2. The conventional way but indeed I have found a method that let's you do so. All you need is a Gameshark that's for the Game Boy Color that can take snapshots and a Game Boy Color system, a Game Boy Advance, a Game Boy Advance SP or a Game Boy Player. What you do is take a snapshot of your Game Boy Color only game running on you Game Boy color compatible system, as forementioned and take a snapshot at the title screen of the game of your choice. One porblematic game with this method is Wario Land 3.

Q: Are there any games enhanced specifically for the Super Game Boy 2 that are undetected by Super Game Boy 1?

A: The only thing I can prove being enhanced is Tetris DX for the Game Boy Color; It has an extra border. There are two games that are rumored to have Super Game Boy 2 only enhancements and they are Pocket Camera (The Japanese version of the Game Boy Camera) and Pokemon Green, a Japanese exclusive to the first generation of Pokemon released around the world, elsewhere as Pokemon Blue version. While the Game cart itselft isn't blue nor the border or title screen the game itself is.

Miscellaneous Questions

Q: If people in America bought a Super Game Boy 2 from QVC, how would they have been able to play it?

A: The Super Game Boy 2 was never sold to the US through QVC mail-order, in fact, The Super Game Boy was a Japan exclusive (I really detest those words). The Super Game Boy was originally planned for release in the US but the Super Nintendo was practically dead with the rise of the N64 and the Virtual Boy was expected to replace the aging Game Boy and so Nintendo felt releasing the Super Game Boy 2 would be not be worth the effort.

Q: Can the Game Boy Game Genie be used with the Super Game Boy?

A: Yes the Game Boy Game Genie is compatible with the Super Game Boy but the Game Boy Game Genie would need an adapter called the The Game Boy Game Genie to Super Game Boy Converter or you can cut the skirt of the Game Boy Game Genie to fit it into your Super Game Boy.

Q: Can Super Nintendo cheat devices such as the Game Genie and Pro Action Replay modify Game Boy game coding, change values, etc?

A: Yes the Super Nintendo Game Genie and PAR can be used as Game Enhancers for the Game Boy. You'll find my codes at the top of this page

Q: I find it annoying that I can't customize color and control schemes on certain Game Boy/ Game Boy Color games, is there a way around this?

A: Yes, you're in luck! I hacked several cool codes that allow you play games with no restrictions! See above for such codes and other codes.

Q: Why won't any of your PAR codes work on my Action Replay MK3 using a SNES Mini or SNES Model 1b ?

A: This is not my fault in any way but rather Nintendo's trying block piracy so they included a chip in the SNES mini similar to that of the NES Authentication 10 CIC so you can't use the PAR MK3 codes on any FX chip game (Including Super Gameboy 1 and 2) on a SNES mini. You will need a SNES model 1, series 1.

Q: What the rarest SGB games: Maybe there so good that Japan wants to keep them!

A: Almost any SGB game can be found but there are a few exceptions:
Pokonyan! (Poko Nyan! Yume no Daibouken, Pokonyan! Yume no Daibouken)
Nekketsu! Beach Volley dayo Kunio-kun (Beach Volleyball)

Q: Are there any version of games worth getting looking in terms of differences? And How do I determine the version of such games?

A1: There is actually an extremely rare version of Tetris (Version 1.0) that has an entirely different song for A-TYPE. I still don't have the cart and I'm still looking for it.

A2: Game Boy and other systems used lightly imprinted numbers that you see on the cart label, usually in the bottom right corner near the Nintendo Seal of Quality and/or Million Seller logo to determine the version of the game. If you see a 21 stamped on it, it was a v1, if it is a 22, it meant v2, etc.

Hey nensondubois, this topic is so awesome.
So it happens that I too was wondering how come there isn't a place online where you can see SGB information in detail, specially all the cool borders a lot of games have.
I decided to do something about it and started taking snapshots of all the borders.
I finished already, I'm now only checking to see if I missed any. If you want I can send you all the borders I have.
Thanks to you I found out about the hidden Tetris DX border, the 5 Tetris 2 borders and the hidden Space Invaders border. (BTW, you said you have to press Start and then select, but it's actually Start and the A button).


Now allow me to ask some questions, contribute some of my findings and give you a suggestion.

- I don't have the real Space Invaders, but if you play that Super NES mode with the Super Game Boy, do you get another border or does the game play in full screen?

- How did you find out about the Tetris 2 and Space Invaders hidden borders? I've never seen the codes posted anywhere.

-What is that game you have on your list called Battle Bomberman? I haven't seen a GB bomberman called like that.

- If you know how to program, can you make a tool that extracts the borders from SGB games? I know the borders are not stored as you see them, but I'm sure there must be a way to find what the games do to arrange the titles and colors and form the border.
I'm sure there must be some GB/GBC with hidden borders that we might not see without a tool like that.

- Are you SURE about the Pokemon Crystal border? That's a GBC only game, it wouldn't even load on a SGB.

- About the color Wario Land 2, are you sure you don't get that Flagman border? I got all the borders plus the flagman one on both the mono and color versions of Wario Land.

- You mention the game PGA Tour 96. That game came out in 1995. The game you must refer to is Golf Classic, which came out in 1993.

- TNN Outdoors Fishing Champ (USA) has 9 borders and Super Black Bass Pocket 3 (J) has 10, because the USA version has the ending cut and a border appears on the ending.
There's also a hidden border if you press start and then B 5 times on the Move screen (where you move your boat).

- Super Black Bass 2 also has a hidden border if you press start and then B 5 times on the Move screen (where you move your boat).

-Super Black Bass also has a hidden border if you press start and then B 7 times on the Move screen (where you move your boat).

- Momotaru Collection 1 has possibly more than 1 border, I looked inside the ROM with a title viewer and I saw what it seems to be a border. I can't try the game because it's not correctly emulated.

- Momotaru Collection 2 also has possibly more than 1 border. I can't try the game because it's not correctly emulated.

- Bomberman Collection has a possible 5th border. I looked inside the ROM with a title viewer and I saw what it seems to be another border, strangely, it's the exact same missing border from Momotaru Collection 1. I haven't found a way to see that border on the game, if it's really possible.

- Daffy Duck Marvin Missions has a second possible border I couldn't find in the game.

- Blaster Master Enemy Below has a border in the usa version, but not in jap one (Meta Fight EX) since it's GBC only.

-I don't know how this is possible, but I've found that some games give you extra borders only if you link 2 Game Boys.
Since the SGB doesn't have link options, I guess it must work if you link a Super Game Boy 2 with a Game Boy.
I can't remember now what games gave me special borders by linking.

- Pokemon Green (Pocket Monsters Midori) is not Japanese exclusive. Poket Monsters Green was changed to Pokemon Blue for the USA and Euro versions. The Japanese Pocket Monsters Blue is the one that the rest of the world didn't get.


And now for a suggestion.
I don't want to sound like an asshole, but could you fix your font? It's really really hard to read with those yellow, bold and italic font on a black background.
Can you make your text normal? Or at least remove the bold and italics?

I'm going to keep looking for more hidden borders, and once I'm done, I can send you pics of all the borders if you want.

1. Space Invaders Plays in full screen in Arcade.

2. The Tetris 2 borders were found at Nintendo DB. I found the Tetris DX border by accident by use of a Game Genie on the Super Game Boy.

3. Battle Bomberman... I don't remeber adding that game. It's probably a typo I should remove.

4. There is no program for extracting SGB borders but there is a program which allows you to convert .GIF images to borders in 64 colors (that's the most amount of colors borders are alotted.

5. Pokemon Crystal has a border, I'm positive but I'm not sure how I accessed it.

6. Flagman DD has a border only present in the monochrome version of Wario Land 2. I tested it and proved it.

7. PGA 96 and Golf Classic are two different games, yes. I will fix that one as well.

8. I don't own TNN Outdoors Fishing Champ, Super Black Bass 2, Super Black Bass, Momotaru Collection 1, Momotaru Collection 2 or Bomberman Collection so I don't know if they have other features like enhanced sounds so I can't add these games unless it's been 100 percent varified.

9. Daffy Duck Marvin Missionswas returned bedause the game sucks. Tile Layer Pro works best for that.

10. Again, I don't own Blaster Master Enemy Below nor Jack no Daibouken for fullfillment purposes. Unless I put "(incomplete information?)" next to these game titles.

11. The borders only avaliable via link cable are stored in memory the same way normal borders are. A flag sets what borders are displayed when, so it is possible.

12. Pokemon Green is not Green... it's initially the Blue version. Ok.

I just said if you could make one, assuming that you know how to program since you mentioned you wanted to make a ZSNES capable of loading GB games. I'm pretty sure there must be some hidden borders that we'll not find unless a tool like that is made.

5. Pokemon Crystal has a border, I'm positive but I'm not sure how I accessed it.

Well, I gotta say you might have confused it with some other game. That's a GBC only game, it won't even load on anything other than the GBC.
I used an emulator and set it to SGB2 mode and the game loaded up fine, but without any borders.
I would love to be proven wrong though.

6. Flagman DD has a border only present in the monochrome version of Wario Land 2. I tested it and proved it.

I used the same cheat you used to unlock all levels and the border was present.
I used a title viewer and all the stuff was the same between the GB and GBC versions.

8. I don't own TNN Outdoors Fishing Champ, Super Black Bass 2, Super Black Bass, Momotaru Collection 1, Momotaru Collection 2 or Bomberman Collection so I don't know if they have other features like enhanced sounds so I can't add these games unless it's been 100 percent varified.

Well, I know you need to try them on the real system to see if there's extra sound and stuff.
But for borders, emulators work fine. All the games I mentioned was about the borders, not about any other enhancements.

9. Daffy Duck Marvin Missionswas returned bedause the game sucks. Tile Layer Pro works best for that.

Yes, the game is horrible. But I played it until the end and I couldn't find that hidden border. But it IS inside the rom.

12. Pokemon Green is not Green... it's initially the Blue version. Ok.

Yes, innitially Pokemon Red & Pokemon Green came out, both had different borders. Then Nintendo released Pokemon Blue through a contest or something like that and made it to have different pokemon designs in the pokedex. In the USA they released Red version intact, and took Green and called it Blue.
They still used the Japanese Blue version border for the American Blue version.

All you need is a game Genie. Put the Game Genie in the Super Gameboy 1 and the Game Boy game in the Game Genie. You might want to get a "Super GameBoy to Game Genie adapter" - That's exactly what it's called. I will update the database when I purchase another game.

(The debug menu is used for both the on-SGB version, and the regular release of Tetris 2, and work the same minus the SGB option.) SGB option is present at START 0D. It is unused and has no known purpose. (There are 5 secret borders accessed by pressing pausing the game, and pressing A Button. An unused border that resembles the Super game Boy border which is accessed by use of this Game Genie code:

It's the same version Gameshark I used to have that could take snapshots of any Game Boy game which could also be used to play Game Boy Color Only games on a Super Game Boy! OMG! I used Hex Workshop to find the strings after not realizing the colors were not encrypted, well partially as it doesn't tell you directly what colors the games have... or dpes it!

What are pre-determined/pre-defined colors? When Nintendo released the Super Game Boy, they had a few games in mind that were worthy of assigning colors to, specifically 1 out of the 32 pallet selection, not enhanced colors. Nintendo felt is was worthy to assign 13 different games a color set. This list is derived from the strings found in the Super Game Boy (J) (R2.0) bios version so it's the most latest version of the Super Game Boy bios. Here is the ledgend/list for these games and what colors they are assigned.

Internal Rom name/Super Game Boy/Game Boy game header - Actual Game name - Color + HEX Digit - Color Picture (To do, possibly) - Comment - own actual cartridge (* - number of copies owned = x), not owned = BLANK

ZELDA - Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening - 1-E (05) - Suits the game very appropriately (* x1)

GBWARS " - 3-E (15) - (J) Game Boy Wars - The Wars series continues on the Game Boy but only in Japan (* x1) - I now own one Japanese color!

My only questions are; Why would Nintendo not assign all or most all 32 color sets? Maybe Nintendo was going to. And why was Balloon Kid listed if it uses the default color, 1-A? Possibly to give the game recognition, I don't know. Why the hell does Japan get more games then we do?!?

In case you don't own these games and would like to see these colors, I have compiled a bgb.exe config file.
bgb.ini.txt (unfortunately, the uploader is being a dick and not allowing me to upload any file with a .ini extension forcing me to append .txt to them. Just remove. txt giving you "bgb.ini". )

Unfortunaelty I can'tset the defualt color so I tried to remove the bold effect but it came back... There are enhanced sounds in Marvin Missions; when you complete a level, you hear clapping. I only play these games on real hardware

Also, "KAERUNOTAMENI" is Kaeruno Tameni (GB). It's a game made by the same team from Zelda: Link's Awakening. Zelda actually uses some characters, music and engine from this game.

And finally, how does that "'strings Super\ Gameboy\ \(J\)\ \(R2.0\) " thing work? What program do I need to use to see those names in the SGB ROM?
Do you know if there's an SNES emulator that lets you load a game in Super Famicom mode? I want to see that "not for Super famicom" message.

I recommend for more advanced users like me, Hexworkshop. You, I recommend using something a little more simplistic like what you sad, hexedit. To view a string in hexworkshop, go to view click on it and you'll see a menu go to, search sting, and set the character limit to 3, look in the lower right corner and scroll down, you'll see transliterated Japanese credited people and at the bottom you'll see the game names akin to the list above a few post.

Were these borders taken from BGB or Virtual Boy Advance or some other emulator? You have more? Unfortunately, I don't have access to an ebay account for purchase but in two months I will so I can't buy Qix.

Ok, I downloaded Hexworkshop 5.1 and I don't see any menu called "View" or search string.
I press CTRL+F to search and select "text string" and ASCII, but the only readable stuff are two sentences that say "Super Game Boy" and that's it.
What am I doing wrong?

Ok I found it, it was in TOOLS and then Find Strings.
I selected 3 for Minimal characters, I selected ASCII, I disabled "requires trailing null" and pressed ok and still nothing. I don't see any coherent ASCII text. It's as if it's not interpreting the garbled stuff into readable text.
Do I need anything extra to make it work?

I have around 200 Game Boy games in general. 30x0 isn't 30 zeros, it's the thirtieth byte and zero is the value you change (variable) it to from 00-FF.
About the wiki article... It's inaccurate in many ways and I never heard of a Super Game Boy Commander. I want one! I'll bet it works the same way by means of tilting the Super Game Boy unit. I'll make a video depicting what I mean by that.

I found a cheat that lets you bend over and blow farts out your bottom in Wario's Great Escape for the SGB when played via zsnes. The code is a hexadecimal representation of binary and is as follows:

This is a collection of all known Game Boy games to have enhanced music when played on a Super Game Boy 1 or 2 ripped by myself and ugetab. Enhanced sounds may be done in the future but probably won't be. Unforutunately there are only a few games that utilize enhanced music.

To use these .spc files, you will need an SPC player and Winamp and an SPC player SNESAMP. I inclued the GBS file to compare the differences between Game Boy hardare (DMG) and Super Game Boy (SPC-700). To play the GBS files, you will need Winamp and nezplug.

Space Invaders Will not be obtainable here because it uses the SNES code and no emulator is able to parse it. And keep note that the three other title variations of A Bug's Life will not be included in the set for a few undisclosed pointless reasons mainly because emulation is not the same as hardware.

Hardware variations.

Some games that have enhanced music when played on a real Super Game Boy will have select songs sound slightly different than their standard form (You'll hear the normal version of the song if you activate an in-game event: Exhibit A: If you die and go back to the title screen in A Bugs Life, you'll hear the normal version of the song but if you reset the game, you'll hear a difference in the song and that is a hardware variation. In A Bug's Life the hardware variation will happen randomly but in FIFA Soccer '98: Road to World Cup, it will always be heard in the main theme without the music modifier code.
