Rules:
1.) Bumping of threads/necroposting
Don't post in topics that are older than 60 days old, unless it really contributes to the actual topic itself. If the question has been answered, then do not reply to the topic. If your reply does not contribute, do not post in it. The best option in this situation is to just leave the topic alone or consider starting a newer version of the topic if one does not exist. The search feature is your friend. If you still need help on a similar topic, either make your own thread or post in the existing one if you are contributing to the original topic.
Consequence: 2 infraction points (15 days)
2.) Avoid double posting
Simple, avoid double posts. Please use the edit button. Now, this can be overlooked if you do it accidentally (clicking submit one too many times); however will not be tolerated if it continues. Exceptions to this rule include posting codes, site updates, etc.
Consequence: 1 infraction points (15 days)
3.) No SPAM, post in the correct forums
We have many forums here, all have their purpose for posting certain topics. SPAM includes anything that is completely off-topic, or that is in the wrong place. So please, keep posts in the relevant forums. Locking topics must be justified with a fellow administrator or moderator.
Consequence: 2 infraction points (15 days)
4.) Staff Members
Moderators and administrators have been appointed and are expected to be treated with respect. Failure to do so can result in possibly severe consequences. Also, do not come to us asking for a staff position.
We come to you for those positions.
Consequence: 3 infraction points (1 month)
5.) Attacking/insulting other Members
Treat other members with respect. The line between jest and seriousness is easy to see. Any harassment of other users will be dealt in an efficient and organized manner. If someone really annoys you, add them to your ignore list. If you have a comment on a member please keep any that are considered offensive confined to Town Hall. FYI this doesn't mean go all out and be an absolute ass. You are allowed to speak your mind in that board but please don't go overboard; this means any continuous flaming will be dealt with.
Consequence: 3 infraction points (1 month)
6.) Code Requests, Other Suggestions
Not all code requests can be filled immediately. Some games are harder to hack than others, we are not obligated to hack a game. Remember that requests and suggestions are just that, requests and suggestions. They might get filled, or they may be ingored. It is highly recommended before posting that you read to ensure you're not repeating an earlier topic. If we find that the topic has already been brought up the new post will be locked. Also, use only 1 topic per game please. It makes the chances of your request being seen even greater. This rule doesn't apply to a hacker's submissions.
Consequence: 4 infraction points (2 months)
7.) Code Theft
Do not try to take credit for another's work. As hackers we pride ourselves in our work. We will not accept any codes that are posted with incorrect credit. Consequences for doing so could be quite severe.
Consequence: 3 infraction points (25 days)
8.) Abuse of the PM System
Any abuse of the PM system reported will result in a punishment. Abuse could be spam, sending harmful content to another user, etc. This includes your right to report them.
Consequence: 2 infraction points (15 days)
9.) Use the Report Button, no mini-modding
Mini-modding is when you make posts such as "Moderator lock this." or "This thread should be closed.". The report button is there for a reason. Do not reply to the rule breakers post. If you are going to report a post, then leave it at that. Replying to the topic will only make things worse without you realizing it. When reporting, if you do not include a legit reason for such you will be asked and if you fail to respond it may result in a ban
depending on the number of reports given. This includes both PMs and posts, and sending staff spam is also not to be tolerated. If you use any email obtained here to spam any staff member, you may be banned.
Consequence: 2 infraction points (15 days for mini-modding; 20 days for report system abuse)
10.) No duplicate accounts.
One account per person. Re-registering under a different account will result in a ban to that user and a call to your ISP regarding your misbehavior on these forums.
Consequence: 2 infraction points (15 days) to one account, permament ban to the alternate account
11.) No advertising.
This is not the place to advertise a site. Any advertising of any competing websites will result in an immediate ban and/or deletion. However, adding a link to your personal site in your signature is fine. Just coming here to advertise though is not okay. It is allowable to post a link to your forum in the proper thread. This rule includes no posting links to disruptive sites (rick rolls, etc).
Consequence: 2 infraction points (15 days), possibly higher depending on the offense
12.) IRC Channel
Do not use the IRC Channel as a means of bypassing any rules of the forum. It is not the place for you to request things. It is meant for real time conversion with the members. Please keep it that way. All forum rules apply (not limited to only these rules, others may be passed).
Consequence: 2 infraction points (15 days)
13.) No spoilers
Please, do not reveal game spoilers to those who don't want the game spoiled for them. If you have something you wish to spoil, please use the [spoiler] tags. However, if the entire thread is marked as *spoilers*, the [spoiler] tags are not necessary unless you are spoiling something from a different game (ie giving spoilers from Earthbound in a Mother 3 spoiler thread). Also, please mark what game the spoilers come from when using the spoiler tags. Failure to do so will result in consequences. Not everyone wants a game spoiled for them.
Consequence: 2 infraction points (15 days)
14.) Signature Rule
No links to disruptive content. This includes links, images, anything. Staff members can ask you to change a portion of your signature at any time (if it is inappropriate, etc.). If you refuse; we'll simply change it for you, or remove your signature privileges all together. You may post a link to your personal site or forum in your signature if you wish.
Consequence: 1 infraction points (10 days)
15.) No distribution of warez, roms, viruses, etc.
Simple as that. No uploading them to the boards, no direct links to a download, none of that. If you want something like that,
Google is your friend. We do have a topic dedicated to posting links to good rom sites (just the homepage, no direct links to a download) in Pandemonium; and some of our affliates are rom/emulator sites as well. Consequences for posting this content, however, will be an immediate ban.
Consequence: 35 infraction points (Permanent; no warning)
16.) Grammar
Please try to use your best English when asking for help, requesting, whatever it may be. We can't help you if we can't understand you. If you don't speak English fluently, just let us know, and we'll
always make an exception for those people. hawkeye2777 knows some German, and I'm sure a couple of the Canadian users on here (Lady Sirloin being one of them) knows some French. You can also use the "Translate Text:" feature to translate text from your native language into English or vice versa.
17.) Use common sense
Just because something isn't listed above, doesn't mean that you can do it. Using common sense will help guarantee you out of most trouble.
Consequence: varies
Automatic Bans for a certain number of Infractions:
35 points ---> 1 week
65 points ---> 2 weeks
100 points --> 1 month
125 points --> Permanent
